About St. Mary's School

A Journey Rooted in Faith, Discipline and Service Since 1981

Our History

From Humble Beginnings to a Trusted Institution

St. Mary's School had its small beginning in 1981. It is run by the Congregation of the Sisters of the Sacred Heart, Patna, founded by Bishop Louis Van Hoeck in 1926 — a visionary whose hard labour led to the establishment of numerous schools and dispensaries dedicated to eradicating injustice, ignorance and poverty. Inspired by his charism, the Sisters of the Sacred Heart devote themselves to education at every level, according to the needs of the time. Over the decades, St. Mary's has grown into a well-recognised co-educational institution in Kankarbagh, Patna.

Who We Are

A Catholic, Co-Educational Institution Open to All

St. Mary's School is a Co-Educational School that primarily caters to middle and lower income groups. As a Catholic school, it draws inspiration and guidance from the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. While primarily meant for Catholic students, admission is open to all, irrespective of religion, caste or community, provided they are willing to live by the school motto: "Love, Wisdom & Service."

How We Sustain Ourselves

Not an Aided Institution

St. Mary's School is not a government-aided school. Fees collected from students are the school's only source of income. As a result, fees are periodically adjusted to keep pace with rising operational costs and staff salaries, ensuring the school continues to deliver quality education.

Our Purpose

Building God-Fearing, Capable Citizens

The purpose of St. Mary's School is to provide an atmosphere in which students, irrespective of caste, creed and place of origin, develop into God-fearing men and women equipped with the power and vision to build a new, loving and serving society through personal commitment in their mature years.

By education I mean an all-round drawing out of the best in child and man — body, mind and spirit.

— Mahatma Gandhi

The Philosophy Behind Our Founding

St. Mary's School was founded on the belief that the greatest cause of evils in the world is moral degradation. While the world has advanced materially, it has often degenerated morally. Educational systems that impart knowledge without high moral values remain incomplete. St. Mary's School was, therefore, established with the specific purpose of providing the new generation with an institution that, besides offering the best education, cares for all-round development — physical, mental and spiritual — while inculcating deep respect for all religions and high moral values.

Building the Best Traditions

St. Mary's School aims at developing in its students the best traditions of composite Indian culture, a high sense of patriotism, and a spirit of dedication towards service to the nation. Special stress is laid on discipline — the very rock on which the edifice of education stands.

From the Principal's Desk

Dear Pupils,

The Diary has been prepared and planned with a view to help you inculcate the habit of planned school work and regular study. It is meant for you to note down the instructions your teachers give regarding homework of reading and writing, and also to let your parents know about the activities of the classroom in particular and school as a whole, including your participation in all school activities. You must bring this diary to school daily without fail and maintain it carefully.

This school intends to provide you all opportunities for the all-round development — physical, mental and moral — of your personality by arranging various activities during and after school hours. It is expected that you will take maximum advantage of this so that the desired and cherished goals of society are achieved.

I sincerely hope and expect all to be well-disciplined citizens of this land, which can be achieved through punctuality, dedication, determination, sincerity and hard work.

I wish and expect that you will bring laurels to the school in all spheres. Never lose hope and keep your will power strong.

With good wishes and best of luck.

— Principal
